Identifying and Pursuing Funding Sources
Today, getting the funding required for your continued operation and future goals is about doing your research, preparing a plan and building long-term relationships with funders based upon a mutual win strategy. This workshop will help you to better understand the current fundraising climate for Canadian non-profits and the ‘how to’ of identifying your organization’s funding needs, your best options in meeting those needs and an approach to building successful relationships with funders. We will explore the various funding types available from public, private and corporate options and the role that each could potentially play in the overall funding strategy for your organization. Then, by better understanding the current thinking of today’s funders, we will identifyways for you to build strong, long-term relationships with select funders and position your organization as a preferred investment.
Power and Diversity in the Boardroom: Creating more representative boards
In this capacity building session for ED’s we will explore the topic of diversity on boards using the lens of power. ED’s often find themselves in the position of advocating for more diversity on their boards but are unsure about how to do this from their position in the organization. In this session we will share experiences in doing this, develop strategies for guiding change and be better able to diagnose dynamics of racism and exclusion in the boardroom. After this session participants will be able to:
- Identify and name racialized interaction in the boardroom.
- Understand the power dynamics that inform these interactions
- Have a set of strategies for changing the composition of their board to become more presentative
- Feel personally empowered to implement changes that will increase boardroom
diversity
